Rankd Climbing ("Rankd," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Rankd mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the App.

By using Rankd, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and password.
• Profile information: You may optionally provide a profile photo, climbing specialty, weakness, favorite movie, and other profile details.
• Climbing data: When you log sends, we collect the climb name, grade, style, date, tags, notes, ratings, and recommendations you provide.
• Saved locations and climbs: Areas and climbs you save as favorites or projects.
• User-generated content: Notes, ratings, and recommendations attached to your logged ascents.

Information Collected Automatically

• Location data: When you grant permission, we access your device location to show nearby crags, climbers, and search results. We only access location while the App is in use. We do not track your location in the background.
• Device information: We may collect general device information such as device type and operating system version for app stability and debugging purposes.

Information From Third Parties

• Climb data: We use OpenBeta's public climbing database to provide route search and area information. OpenBeta data is publicly available and is not personal information.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide, operate, and maintain the App
• Calculate your climbing score and rank
• Display your public profile, rank, and ascent history to other users (unless you enable Private Mode)
• Show you nearby climbers and crags
• Enable social features such as following other climbers and viewing their sends
• Process account export and deletion requests
• Send you service-related communications (such as email confirmation)
• Improve and develop the App

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

• Public profile data: Your display name, rank, score, and ascent history are visible to other Rankd users unless you enable Private Mode. Ascent notes marked as private are never shown to other users.
• Service providers: We use Supabase for our backend infrastructure and data storage. Your data is stored on Supabase's servers and is subject to their security practices.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides encryption at rest and in transit. We implement row-level security policies to ensure users can only access data they are authorized to see.

Authentication tokens are stored on your device using Expo SecureStore, which uses the iOS Keychain for secure storage.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Privacy Choices

• Private Mode: You can enable Private Mode in Settings to hide your profile from other users, exclude yourself from the leaderboard, and anonymize your ascent history on public surfaces.
• Note privacy: Notes on your ascents that are marked private are never displayed to other users.
• Blocking: You can block other users to prevent them from viewing your profile or interacting with your content.
• Data export: You can request a full export of your account data from Settings. Exports are generated as downloadable files.
• Account deletion: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings. Deletion is irreversible.
• Location permission: You can revoke location access at any time through your device settings. The App will continue to work but location-dependent features will be limited.

6. Children's Privacy

Rankd is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@rankdclimbing.com.

7. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase: Backend infrastructure, database, authentication, and file storage.
• OpenBeta: Public climbing route and area data for search and discovery.
• Expo / EAS: App build and update infrastructure.
• Apple (App Store): App distribution.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will permanently remove your personal data, climbing history, and profile information from our systems. Some anonymized or aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
